Travel Guide from Railway Station & Bus Stand
Tirupati Railway Station is a major rail hub connecting to cities like Hyderabad, Chennai, Bangalore, and more. The distance from the station to Tirumala is about 22 km by road.
APSRTC buses operate regularly from near the railway station to Tirumala. These include the Sapthagiri Express (state-run buses) which take pilgrims up the ghat road to Tirumala.
A one-way bus ticket typically costs around ₹84 (approx.) on state-run APSRTC services.
The journey duration is about 1 hour, depending on traffic and road conditions.
Departure times typically start early morning (around 6:00 AM) and continue until afternoon (about 4:00 PM) on most days.
APSRTC buses to Tirumala also operate from major bus stations in Tirupati such as:

Buses to Tirumala run at regular intervals throughout the day, helping pilgrims reach the base of the hill easily.
The ticket price is similar to the train station route — around ₹84 one way for APSRTC buses.
The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) also runs free bus services from Tirupati Railway Station and Central Bus Stand to Alipiri and Srivari Mettu, the start points of the hill paths. These buses depart every 20–30 minutes and help pilgrims who plan to walk up the hill.
Many pilgrims also take prepaid taxis or private cabs from Tirupati Railway Station or bus stand directly to Tirumala. Typical taxi fare for this 22 km route starts around ₹1000 or more, depending on driver and vehicle type.
